Jamun Fruit Yogurt Popsicle

Jamun fruit yogurt Popsicle is a frozen dessert made from black plum and hung curd. This 3 ingredient , no-cook Popsicle is a health alternative to ice-creams and make up for a flavorful treat during Summers. Jamun is a seasonal fruit with a distinct sweet and tart taste and many health benefits. It lends a beautiful purple hue to the dessert making it all the more appealing. Make these delicious fruit and yogurt Popsicle while the fruit is still in season .

Black plum commonly known as Jamun fruit is a seasonal fruit and is available in India during the months of May through August. Lets have a look at the health benefits of this summer fruit.
Jamun fruit is rich in iron so good for people suffering with anaemia, has good level of vitamin A and C , thus it keeps skin healthy and acne free. It is a very good natural blood purifier and very beneficial for people suffering  from diabetes as it has low glycemic index, which ensures conversion of sugar and starch to energy, thereby reducing the blood sugar levels. Source

Making Jamun fruit yogurt Popsicle is very easy. You just need a blender to blend the thick curd , honey and fruit flesh. I have made a layered Popsicle by layering the sweetened yogurt with a layer of the jamun yogurt mix. You may blend everything together and make a uniformly coloured Popsicle if you wish.

Preparation Time: 4-6 hours
Cooking Time: 0 minutes
Serves: 6

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup hung curd ( tie 1 1/2 cup curd in a muslin cloth and hang it for 2-3 hours)
  • 1/2 cup fresh ripe Jamun fruit / Black Plum
  • 2 tablespoon honey

Method:

  1. Wash the fruit , pat dry and remove the seeds from it. In a blender jar take half the quantity of hung curd ,1 tablespoon honey and the fruit flesh and blend well to get a smooth mix.

2. In another bowl , take the remaining curd. Add honey to it and whisk well.

3. Fill the Popsicle mold half way with the plain sweetened yogurt. Layer it with the fruit yogurt mix and fill the molds.

4. Place the holder stick in the middle and put the molds in the freezer to set. Just before serving remove the molds from the freezer and either run the molds through hot water for few seconds or let it sit out for 3-5 minutes. Hold the stick and gently pull it out.

5. Serve them immediately !

  Recipe Notes:
  • You may add any sweetener of your choice or entirely skip it if you wish.
  • Instead of making a layered Popsicle you may simply blend everything together and make a uniformly coloured Popsicle.
  • Use fresh ripe fruit for best results.
