Microwave Bharwa Bhindi / Stuffed Okra Recipe

Bharva Bhindi is a delicious Indian Okra preparation which is served as a side dish with chapati , poori or paratha. A very easy recipe and can be cooked both on cook top or in a Microwave. I generally cook food using gas stove but cooking in a microwave is very fuss free and saves lots of time.

Whenever i have some guest over dinner or lunch and many stuffs to cook, this recipe comes to my rescue. Microwave cooking also works when we shift to a new place and Gas transfers take time :)

  • 250 gram Okra / Bhindi 
  • 1 large Onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp roasted and powdered Peanuts
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp dry Mango powder
  • 1/4 tsp Hing / Asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  1. Select small tender okra for bharva bhindi if possible .Wash the Okra thoroughly and clean dry with a kitchen towel. Remove the stalk and slit the okra length wise keeping it joint from the other side. If the okra are big cut them into 2 or 3 pieces and then slit.

 2.  Place the slit okra in a microwave safe bowl. Drizzle 1 tbsp oil and salt on them and Microwave for 3 minutes . Okra become soft and tender . Remove them in a plate. 

  3.   Add the remaining oil in the same Microwave safe bowl. To it add all the ingredients of the stuffing and mix well with a spoon and microwave for 2 minutes.

  3. Now just mix the already cooked Okra with the masala with a spoon. No need of individually stuffing the masala inside the bhindi. Microwave for another 1-2 minutes and you are done with your Bharva Bhindi !

  4.  Serve this delicious stuffed Okra with chapati, naan or paratha.
